Lever is an attempt to cite and to trouble some of the metaphors inherent in some 20C Minimalist sculpture. This series of ten videos responds to Carl Andre's Lever, a single line of 139 un-joined firebricks that ran across the gallery floor of the Jewish Museum, New York City at its first showing in the 'Primary Structures' show in 1966. Lever is both an effort to course quietly through a stone circle as a 34 and a half foot length, and a reimagining of Andre's attack on verticality through a line of clothing and my body as a contingent, floppy and temporary comparison to his hard static object cutting in to space.
